Novel microalgae strains, extracts, and byproducts for agriculture

Portrait Zaida Andres Gonzalez

“We sought to collaborate with R&D partners beyond agriculture to access microalgae strains and explore their potential. One of our key goals is to help farmers protect their crops from cold stress during germination and seedling establishment. We received some really interesting submissions.”

Zaida Andres Gonzalez, Global Head of Chemistry and Formulation Science, Syngenta Biologicals

The Challenge

This challenge was born from our goal of developing novel agricultural products from microalgae strains, extracts, or byproducts of microalgae production. We were particularly interested in strains with proven biostimulant activity and efficacy in combating cold stress or enhancing seedling establishment.

The biological diversity and the broad applications for microalgae products made microalgae a promising platform for exploration. By increasing the discovery pipeline for novel microalgae strains and suppliers, we wanted to enable the discovery and development of new biostimulant technology.

The Syngenta team received interest from a cross section of potential partners across the globe.

We are actively evaluating these submissions to explore their potential for development of new biostimulant technologies.

Moving forward

While this challenge is now closed, our innovation in this space continues. If you still want to help us create novel agricultural products from microalgae, we’d love to hear from you.
